Thando Thabethe Joins 947!

Thando Thabethe has officially taken over the afternoon drive-time slot on Johannesburg-based radio station, 947.

Taking to Twitter this morning, Monday 8 March, the former 5FM deejay posted a video clip of herself walking through the studio, saying: “Yup, it’s official. From 23 March, you will hear me on ‘947 Drive with Thando’.”

Joined by co-host Alex Caige, Thabethe will be taking over the airwaves from 3PM to 7PM.

In a subsequent statement, she gushed over her appointment: “I have always loved radio as a medium to genuinely connect with people through music and conversation. I believe music is a true leveller … I can’t wait to get behind the mic and contribute to our 947 audience’s listening experience.”

The drive-time slot was formerly filled by DJ Fresh, who – with DJ Euphonik – departed from the radio station in January following rape charges made against them. However, the National Prosecuting Authority later dropped the charges due to “insufficient evidence.”
